Sony Ericsson akhirnya merilis Sony Ericsson W8 sebagai ponsel Walkman pertama yang mengusung sistem operasi Android. Kemunculan ponsel ini memupus isu bahwa Sony Ericsson W15 bakal menjadi ponsel Walkman Android pertama dari vendor tersebut. Jika dilihat-lihat, ponsel ini sangat identik dengan Xperia X8. Hanya saja Sony Ericsson W8 dikemas dalam warna merah dan dihiasi logo Walkman.
Sama seperti Xperia X8, ponsel ini juga sudah disuntik dengan layar sentuh kapasitif 3 inchi dengan resolusi 320×480 piksel, port audio 3.5 mm, kamera 3,2 MP serta prosesor 600 MHz dan RAM 168 MB. Sayangnya, Sony Ericsson W8 masih menggunakan Android v2.1 atau Eclair.
Tapi jangan kuatir, meski masih memanfaatkan sistem operasi Android lawas, Sony Ericsson W8 sudah dipermak dengan Timescape UI. Tampilan antarmuka khas Sony Ericsson ini tampil atraktif dan mampu membuat Android Eclair terlihat lebih mutakhir. Lebih dari itu, dalam paket penjualannya, Sony Ericsson W8 sudah dibenami dengan headset stereo MH410. Kabarnya, meski harganya masih rahasia, ponsel ini akan segera masuk Indonesia pada kuartal kedua tahun ini.
